An update on Soda and my Fountain Arcade
This will be a short rant, by my standards. So, what am I up to? Why did I slow down so much in December and January when compared to October and November?
A lot of reasons. I'll summarize a bit, because as is usually the case, there is more depth than a few sentences can communicate.
First, I got a second job. Then, my grandfather past away during the second week of December. I flew across the country to mourn his passing. When I returned home, it was just in time for solstice and Christmas. During the holidays, and stretching into the new year, all 5 people in my house seemed to have passed a flu/cold/minor plague around like it was hot potato, but the hot potato makes everyone miserable for days at a time.
Of course, coupling all of this with the insane amount of reviews that I was churning out, and I kind of got a little overwhelmed. I wouldn't say that I bit off more than I could chew, but spending basically every waking moment of my life occupied by work of some kind made it difficult to maintain at that pace and still have head space for my family at the end of the day.
So, I decided to give myself a little bit of a break. I sent out emails to all of the devs that had been so gracious to provide me with review codes, and explained what had been going on, but that I would still get my reviews written. I had just needed some time to catch up to myself, and here I am. I'm still planning on pacing myself a but better, but I'm now a little more focused on strengthening my network and have some plans for future collaborations.
As I said in November, I do want to get a YouTube channel going, and I haven't changed my mind on that, it just became a little bit lower priority. To go along with that, I had also planned on doing a few different "best of" lists for the Nintendo Switch Holiday Buyer's Guide, and now I think I'll save those for future content on the YouTube channel.
The focus of that channel will be rants, news, rumors, accessory reviews, and hopefully some guest spots and interviews.
I've still been active at The Switch Effect, having published a half dozen reviews or so, with a lot more on the way. I'll also be doing a few reviews that will be simultaneously posted on both sites.
I've also started writing reviews at Miketendo 64 (my review for Earth Wars there).
In addition to scattering my words like seeds to the wind, I'll be moving the blog to a new server in the next few weeks. Hopefully this will improve the look and readability issues, and also help with some of the broken/wrong link problems that seem to pop up on occasion.
Thanks for checking in!
See you tomorrow (tonight?)
