[Review] Miles and Kilo - Nintendo Switch

Miles and Kilo is Four Horses' follow up to endless runner Kid Tripp. As I've noted in my other reviews of sequels, it is usually expected that when a developer makes a new entry in a series, that they show off what they've learned from the previous game by making improvements, and Miles and Kilo is a great example of a sequel done right.

Instead of just sticking with the excellent level resigned crafted around the game's mechanics (which are still present), they upped the ante by giving Miles and Kilo the ability to have full control in levels where you're just Miles. The Kilo levels are still auto-runs, but they mix it up between the levels at a pretty nice pace and variance to keep things fresh and not make the game too frustrating for those that don't enjoy endless runners.  As you progress through each level, you will fail, but it is a fair learning experience that you must overcome to conquer the level in one go.

Miles and Kilo was designed with speed runners in mind, and there are multiple ways to tackle each level as a result. The first attempt, for example, may revolve around you throwing fruit at the enemies in your way, but subsequent runs may have you learning to better time your jumps and conserve your fruit for more difficult to avoid obstacles. Thankfully, fruit is in sufficient supply to restock as you make your way through the level. In addition, while you always have to beat a level in one run without fail, the levels are fairly short. I often found that whenever I was having difficulty getting past a certain part, the end of the level usually came up shortly after the screen at which I repeatedly failed.

As Miles and Kilo has already been out for a little while, I've started seeing interesting speed runs of levels here and there that show how creative people can be when getting from point A to point B.

Miles and Kilo has been a joy, and just like Kid Tripp before it, manages to really capture the nostalgia of pixel graphic games with a learning curve attached to reaction time and pattern recognition.
